Toroidal coil inductance: Difference due to wire-winding ways

This is a comparison with toroidal coil inductance difference due to wire-winding ways, tight winding and all-perimeter winding. In small turn number 5, the inductance by tight local winding is more than twice its by all-perimeter winding.
  • 5-turn tight local winding ---- 359 nH @28 MHz
  • 5-turn all-perimeter winding ---- 164 nH @28 MHz
AL number of an iron powder core is specified in 100-turn winding. So we have to take care of actual inductance in winding below 100 turns. We can't know its inductance without measuring.

A certain book says that cores of low permeability like an iron powder core well show this tendency.

In 5-turn tight local winding rotation of the core affects the inductance. I got 340 nH minimum with rotation of the core. But this is adequate variance because the difference is only -5 %.
